Fiona's story


Fiona started tap dancing when she was 2 years old as well as gymnastics and majoretts. At aged 6 she started Highland and then aged 9 disco had been added to her list! By ten she had begun highland competitions. Fiona through hard work and determination worked her way to the pre championships. Unfortunately when Fiona was 17 she damaged her back therfore was unable to continue highland competitions.


Fiona’s attention focused on disco, and once again Fiona worked her way to competition level where she won 1st and 2nd prizes in Disco and Rock 'n' Roll, Fiona realised that it was the performing she enjoyed more than the actual competing. Through a bit of persuasion the class Fiona attended at the time were allowed to put on a musical 'Greece’. The production proved a success and they went on to do ‘Aladdin’ Fiona played the part of Aladdin.


In 1997 Fiona was given a small class to teach, this gave her a taste for teaching. But now was not the time to take this too seriously, there is still a lot more for Fiona to see and do.


In 1998 Fiona had decided that performing was what she wanted to do. That year she auditioned for ‘My Fair Lady’, which was showing at the ‘Kings Theatre’ in Edinburgh, this was an amazing experience performing in front of thousands, After this Fiona went on to do ‘Chess’ the musical and then ‘Me And My Girl’ for a company in Bathgate. A lot of these shows had ballet in them, so in order to broaden her potential Fiona took adult ballet classes. Six months from starting Fiona was allowed to go on to point shoes, which is a great achievement.


January 2000 Fiona passed her Associate Tap exam, this qualified her as a teacher. The following week Fiona performed in ‘Follies’, in the ‘Church Hill Theatre’. After qualifying Fiona decided to expand her little class into a School of Dance.


Fiona was given the job of choreographer for ‘The Bathgate Operatic society’, who perfored ‘Oklahoma' in March 2001. As a result of this she was invited to choreograph 'Buggsy Malone' for 'The Young Generation' (Bathgate).


In March 2002 Fiona performed in 'Anything Goes'. After this Fiona chose to turn her attention to devloping the Dance school.


In September 2002 Fiona was married to Stephen and is now know has 'Mrs Fiona Mears'. Fiona and Stephen now have a son Called David who was born on 3/1/05 and a daughter called Candice who was born on 16/1/08.

The dance school has continued to developed over the years, with dancers taking part in disco and highland competitions, shows once a year, performing at local galas and more recently girls being accepted to work for an entertainments agency.

The practice hall is also developing by getting a new wooden floor and paint. The toilets are next on the list for up grading!
